Grand Surfaces is the leading sustainable online flooring retailer in Canada. We are serious about the quality, craftsmanship, durability, style, and sustainability of the products we offer. Even our adhesives and primers have been specially chosen for their zero VOC content. We care about the health of our homes and those living in them as well as the health of our planet and all of us living on it.
Our Commitment to Sustainability
We only have one planet. We must do all we can to conserve our shared resources, protect our environment, and live in harmony.
Renewable Resources: Cork, wool, and jute are some of the greatest renewable resources on the planet. These natural products are made of wholly organic matter and can be rapidly reproduced without degrading these or other resources. Our renewable flooring products are strong, durable, and exhibit a rich, luxurious, and natural feel and authentic patina that you can only get from the real thing. Mass-market synthetic alternatives (plastics derived from petrochemicals that don't breakdown in landfill and off-gas VOCs) cannot compare.
Circularity: Our reclaimed heart pine hardwood flooring is made from wood reclaimed from century old buildings across North America. The fibers in our carbon negative carpet tile are made from old discarded fishing nets pulled from the sea and other recycled materials including old carpet tiles that have been upcycled to create new products. The cork material in our flooring is a waste byproduct of wine stopper manufacturing and the woodflour in our linoleum is a waste byproduct from the lumber industry. For sustainability to work we must adopt a circular economy. This approach to reusing and upcycling existing resources is integral to curating our lines of the most sustainable flooring products on the planet.
Innovation & Resource Conservation: Our waterproof hardwood flooring products are a true innovation in sustainability. By constructing this flooring with a compressed and hardened veneer of real hardwood on a waterproof HDF core we're able to use 10x less wood than engineered hardwood flooring and 30x less wood than solid hardwood flooring. That means 10x and 30x less trees are being cut down to produce the same amount of flooring. Plus, our hardened waterproof floors are virtually indestructable so they will have a much longer lifespan than other hardwood flooring products on the market.
Giving Back: In addition to curating and selling the most sustainable flooring products found on the planet, a percentage of our profits are donated to sustainability initiatives like investing in renewable technologies, renewable energies, environmental conservation efforts, and tree planting.
